Washington DC, Army Map Service, US Army (for the US Army Air Forces), December 1943.

Two large-format three-colour maps , printed on the recto and verso of a piece of silk (external dimensions approximately 860 × 720 mm; approximate printed surfaces approximately 760 × 660 mm and 755 × 630 mm respectively).

Creased where folded (down to 115 × 95 mm), with a few loose threads to the edges; the two exposed panels of the folded map (measuring overall 180 × 115 mm) are lightly discoloured and marked, with a few tiny holes worn along one fold (but with no impact on any printed detail); a few small spots of foxing; overall in excellent condition.

The Amboina map features primarily West Papua. Halmahera is the largest island in the Maluku Islands (the Moluccas) in Indonesia. These silk 'escape or evasion' maps were issued primarily for use by air force personnel.
