Printed on the verso of the card are the details of the Plymouth (Devon) photographer John E. Palmer, 'Royal Letters Patent Dated 1872'. Both the card and the photograph are in excellent condition. The subject is presumably a local identity; the period is probably the 1870s. The 'Jesus Only' banner on top of the organ, and the open book (perhaps a hymnal, or the Bible) in the hands of the wiry man in his frock coat, suggest an evangelist of the streets. His unusual stance caught our eye, and upon closer inspection he would appear to have a club foot.
