The postcards each measure approximately 87 × 137 mm; discolouration to five photographs; a few slight marks; one photograph lightly indented; remains of a very small piece of tape on one image; a very good group.

The captions read: 'Rapid Creek Station 8 mile from Darwin, N.T.'; 'A view taken on the road leading to the railway yard, Darwin, N.T.'; 'Looking over the railway station Darwin N.T.'; 'View of Railway offices leading from wharf to the town our residence at top of hill where X mark'; 'Cattle awaiting shipment Darwin'; and 'Loading cattle on the Cattle-boat'; and 'Finish Darwin Cup, 1925. Owner of second horse had side wager for £500. Went close but lost the £500' [sic]. This last caption gives the strongest indication of a date for the group.

Offered together with two postcard-format photographs relating to South Australian railways. These are captioned 'Head of Line. 360 m from P.A. [Port Augusta]' and 'My Home at Tarcoola'. This last image is particularly illustrative of living conditions on the railways in the Australian outback, and has further annotations on the image indicating the sleeping car and office. It is also initialled and dated 'W.L., 1/5/16', and has the details of 'C.O. Bennett, Fitzroy', perhaps giving us a clue as to the identity of the railwayman.
