Large octavo, 867 pages plus a frontispiece portrait, an additional engraved pictorial title page and 8 full-page plates.

Contemporary full polished prize calf (signed by Relfe Brothers, London), with the gilt crest of Adelaide's Collegiate School of St Peter on the front cover; spine extensively decorated in gilt, in compartments, with a contrasting leather title-label; marbled edges and endpapers; covers a little scuffed and marked, with a library call number written lightly in white ink at the foot of the spine; 'Date Due' slip and card endpocket on the rear endpaper; overall a very attractive volume (internally fine).

With the bookplate of the Collegiate School of St Peter, Stow Memorial Library, noting that the book was presented by Elizabeth E. Labatt, in memory of her brothers (C.B., S.B., and J.B. Labatt). A short article in the Adelaide 'Advertiser' for 20 December 1938 reveals that the author Katie Langloh Parker (Mrs Catherine Stow, 1856-1940) endowed the Stow Memorial Library at the school in memory of her husband, Percival Randolph Stow (1857-1937), a prominent Adelaide barrister, about a year after his death.
