Item #111499 The Ostrekoff Jewels. E. Phillips OPPENHEIM.

The Ostrekoff Jewels

London, Hodder and Stoughton, 1932 [first edition].

Octavo, 315 pages.

Blue cloth lettered in black on the front cover and spine; the colour of the cloth on the sides is uniformly a distinctly different shade of blue (possibly being affected by the boards); a few very light indentations to the leading edge; essentially a fine copy with the Bip Pares colour-pictorial dustwrapper lightly marked and chipped, with a few tiny edge tears, and slight bruising and light indentations near the head of the spine.

An American diplomat attempts to smuggle the famous jewels out of revolutionary Russia for his friends, Prince and Princess Ostrekoff. The American edition of the same year appears to be far more common. Although the dustwrappers of both editions feature superficially similar Bip Pares artwork, even a cursory inspection indicates numerous differences in the detail.
