Melbourne, Melbourne Olympic Candidature 1996 Committee, .
Three volumes, maximum dimensions 425 × 265 mm (the top edge of the first and second volumes are cut at an angle, in opposite directions to each other - the spine of the first volume is 370 mm high, as is the leading edge of the second volume), 120; 279; and 68 pages with numerous illustrations (from photographs), many full-page and in colour.
Quarter leather and patterned papered boards (the three volumes are basically in gold, silver and bronze tones, respectively) with a small 'Melbourne 1996' Olympics plate mounted on the front covers; a thin strip of the patterned paper on the 'Media' volume is a little tarnished where it overlaps with the leather (a trifling production flaw); a fine set in the near-fine publisher's custom-made carrying case.
Melbourne and Athens made submissions to host these Games, but the winner was Atlanta. These volumes are perhaps not to everyone's taste, but having said that, they weren't produced in large quantities.
