Melbourne, Kemp and Boyce, 1888 [revised second edition]/ 1887 **check MM + Ferguson.
Octavo, [iv], 95, (Australian Irrigation Colonies advertisement) pages with 4 full-page illustrations by the author; the first illustration is repeated on the front cover, there are full-page advertisements on the versos of both covers, and 'Dona Sol Cigars' are advertised at the head and foot of the front cover.
Pictorial wrappers a little used, but expertly conserved, with minor loss to the spine and edges of the front cover made good; inkstain to the foot of the rear cover and the bottom edge (only) of the last ten leaves; overall a very presentable copy.
The preface identifies the author as A.E. (Arthur Esam, 1850-1934). It also states that these sketches 'were originally written for, and appeared a few years ago in the Christmas issue of some of the Australian newspapers ... Many of the incidents spoken of in the sketches are facts, that occurred to the writer himself, during the many years he was in the Australian bush'.
