Item #118494 The Little Black Princess of the Never-Never. Mrs Aeneas GUNN.
The Little Black Princess of the Never-Never

The Little Black Princess of the Never-Never

London, Hodder and Stoughton, [probably early 1910s]/ 1905.

Octavo, viii, 107, [1] (colophon) pages with marginal illustrations plus a frontispiece, 19 plates and a map.

Colour-pictorial tan cloth a little marked and rubbed, with minor wear to the extremities; endpapers lightly marked and offset; a very good copy (internally excellent).

This edition is not listed in Muir (but see Muir 3112 for the 'New and revised edition' of 1909, and an undated example). The first, second and third impressions of the first edition of 1905 contain 24 plates, whereas this one, and later editions up to at least the 78th thousand (circa 1925 - see Muir 3114) contain only 19 plates. The discrepancy is accounted for by the presence in these later editions of marginal illustrations (Bett-Bett's favourite quart pot, Billy Muck's fire sticks ...) that appeared in composite plates earlier on.
