Melbourne, E.W. Cole, Book Arcade, [1900s] ('Printed by Ballantyne, Hanson & Co, Edinburgh & London').
Octavo, xii, 1042 pages plus a frontispiece portrait.
Full morocco, extensively decorated in gilt on all surfaces, with gilt inner dentelles; boards a little bowed; binder's blanks each end are offset, with a contemporary inscription in ink on the one at the front of the book; an excellent copy.
The text appears to be a contemporary Eyre and Spottiswoode edition, with Cole's details (and 'Commonwealth of Australia') printed on the title page. The binding is anything but off the shelf: it is a superb example of colonial craftsmanship, stamped in gilt on the inside rear cover 'Bound by F. Binns, Adelaide'.
