Loosely inserted is a typed letter on company letterhead, signed by company president Robert F. Abercrombie, to New Zealand sporting goods suppliers A. & W. McCarthy of Dunedin. Among other things he states that 'we furnished a good part of Commander Byrd's equipment for his Antarctic trip. We made 47 of the tents and 32 special sleeping robes. He chose our line because it was the best in the country and practical'.
