Item #104721 The Thirty-Seventh. History of the Thirty-Seventh Battalion AIF. 37th Battalion, Norman Gordon McNICOL.

The Thirty-Seventh. History of the Thirty-Seventh Battalion AIF

Melbourne, printed by The Modern Printing Company, 1936.

Octavo, [xxiv] (last blank), 354, [2] pages with 12 maps and a 3-page facsimile letter plus 20 pages of plates (from photographs).

Cloth a little flecked; spine lightly sunned; boards slightly bowed; edges, endpapers and the first few leaves lightly foxed, with the front flyleaf unevenly offset; basically, an excellent copy.

The book is not identified as such, but it comes from the personal collection of Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Thomas Paterson (1886-1950), Commanding Officer of the 39th Battalion AIF, and the author of that battalion's history. This copy is signed by the author on the half-title. Lieutenant Norman Gordon McNicol enlisted in the 37th in early 1916; he was several times badly wounded in action, and was awarded the Military Cross in 1917. Dornbusch 330; Fielding and O'Neill, page 228; Trigellis-Smith 233.
