An admission ticket to the state funeral of the Duke of Wellington, which took place at St Paul's Cathedral on 18 November 1852
The card (117 × 183 mm) is blind-embossed with the seal of the Earl Marshal of England and printed lithographically with decorative border, ducal coronet and the text: 'Funeral of the Late Field Marshal The Duke of Wellington, K.G. Admit [blank] to St. Paul's Cathedral. Norfolk, Earl Marshal'. It has a manuscript ink inscription giving the seat number and location in the Cathedral: '488. Centre Area under the Dome. South Side' above the printed text. 'Duke of Wellington's Seats' is written in ink in another hand on the blank verso. It is in excellent condition. (A second ticket, similar but not identical, is also available. The seat number, 1479, is still in ink, while the location is printed: 'Nave. North Side'. The blank verso is pink; apart from a tiny light stain to the verso, this card is also in excellent condition. It is priced separately at $350).
